Every scale, every mode, visualized on the full neck. Tap a note to hear it.
Open Scale ExplorerA complete scale explorer covering every church mode (Ionian through Locrian), pentatonics, blues, harmonic/melodic minor, whole tone, diminished, and exotic scales (hungarian minor, phrygian dominant, hirajoshi, arabic double harmonic). Displayed on a realistic wood-tone fretboard from 0–24 frets.
Why scales matter
A scale is just an ordered set of notes. But internalizing the shape of each scale on the fretboard is how guitarists improvise, write melodies, and solo in key. Pentatonic minor is the most-used scale in rock, blues, and metal. Learning its 5 positions unlocks the entire neck.
Modes, demystified
Every mode is just the major scale starting on a different degree. Dorian (2nd mode) = minor with a raised 6th — the Santana sound. Mixolydian (5th mode) = major with a flat 7 — blues and rock. Phrygian (3rd mode) = minor with a flat 2 — Spanish/metal. Lydian (4th mode) = major with a sharp 4 — dreamy, film score. Each mode has a dedicated page with interactive fretboard.
