Estimate decking boards, joists, posts, and materials needed.
Divide deck width by board width to get boards per row, multiply by deck length divided by board length (typically 12ft).
16" on center is standard for most decking. Use 12" for heavier composite boards or 24" for stronger wood species.
Posts should be spaced 6-8 feet apart in both directions for proper support.
Estimate 24 screws per board (2 screws per joist crossing, typically 12 joists).
